Utah Football’s Running Back Position Transformed Ahead of 2025 Season
SALT LAKE CITY— As Utah football wraps up spring ball, reviews of each position group are underway, showcasing notable progress under head coach Kyle Whittingham. A significant transformation has occurred in the running back room, instilling optimism among fans and coaches alike.
Entering 2025, Wayshawn Parker is set to lead the charge. Having followed running backs coach Mark Atuaia to Salt Lake City, Parker was a standout during spring camp, overcoming a minor offseason surgery to regain his rhythm. At 5-foot-10 and 206 pounds, Parker amassed 735 yards and four touchdowns last season and is primed for an impressive upcoming year. "He’s trending in the right direction," said Atuaia, optimistic about Parker’s performance.
Backing Parker in a fiercely competitive race are NaQuari Rogers and Devin Green. Rogers, bringing valuable experience from his time at New Mexico, is viewed as an emerging leader in the room. With 382 rushing yards and five touchdowns last season, his mentorship will be crucial as the team adapts to its new dynamics. "NaQuari has a good feel for what to say, especially in tough situations," Atuaia noted.
Devin Green, a transfer from UNLV, adds depth and versatility to the backfield alongside true freshman Daniel Bray, who also displayed potential during spring drills. Bray’s adaptability may allow him to see game action, albeit in a limited role.
Additionally, the Utes are set to welcome two promising newcomers this summer: reclassified freshman Raycine Guillory from Texas and former Old Dominion running back Bryce Duke. Their arrival will bolster Utah’s running back depth and enhance the group’s future outlook.
