Arcata, CA – This Saturday, the Redwood Region Audubon Society invites nature enthusiasts to a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Participants should bring binoculars and meet trip leader Bob Battagin at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) for stunning views of Humboldt Bay and the varied birdlife that inhabits the marsh.
Later in the day, Friends of the Arcata Marsh will host another free tour. Led by Renshin Bunce, this 90-minute walk starts at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center, highlighting the marsh’s history while exploring Klopp Lake and South I Street. For those looking to dance, a lively event featuring live music takes place at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka on Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m., with an admission fee of $9.
Birdwatching enthusiasts can also join the Redwood Region Audubon Society for “Monthly Pelagic Birding Trips” aboard the Steller Sunrise, a 43-foot U.S. Coast Guard-inspected vessel. These trips provide the opportunity to spot unique marine life and pelagic birds rarely observed from shore. Scheduled for several Saturdays, including June 21 and July 12, the trips cost $150 per person, with a limit of 15 participants.
