University of Utah Athletics Achieves Academic Excellence in NCAA Report

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has announced the results of its annual Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) report, highlighting the impressive academic performance of the University of Utah’s athletic programs. Eight teams achieved perfect single-year scores of 1000 for the 2023-24 academic year, demonstrating a strong commitment to student-athlete success.

The teams that reached this milestone include women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s skiing, men’s skiing, women’s soccer, softball, men’s tennis, and women’s volleyball. Additionally, Utah’s women’s soccer program earned a perfect multi-year score of 1000, a cumulative assessment across a four-year span starting from the fall of 2020.

Mark Harlan, Director of Athletics, expressed pride in the results, stating, "This report reflects the tremendous quality of the students who participate in intercollegiate athletics at the University of Utah." He acknowledged the dedication of student-athletes, coaches, and staff in maintaining high academic standards amid the evolving landscape of college athletics.

The men’s and women’s skiing teams also received impressive multi-year scores of 990 and 995, respectively, during a period that saw them capture three national championships. Meanwhile, women’s basketball secured a multi-year rate of 995, highlighted by three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

The university has seen substantial academic achievements, with 87 current or former student-athletes graduating in the past year. Furthermore, the Utes achieved a 95% score in the 2024 NCAA Graduation Success Rate, marking the seventh consecutive year that the program has met or exceeded the 93% benchmark required for athletic scholarships.

This latest APR report reinforces the University of Utah’s commitment to academic excellence, showcasing a successful blend of athletics and education.
