Snowbird Closes 2024-25 Ski Season as Utah’s Last Resort
On May 26, 2025, Snowbird celebrated the official end of the 2024-25 ski season, solidifying its reputation as the last ski resort to close in Utah. The resort saw a lively turnout of skiers and snowboarders, many sporting festive attire such as shorts, tutus, and even costumes, including a Yeti and an astronaut. Although conditions were slushy and less than pristine, the party-like atmosphere was palpable as attendees engaged in a unique pond-skimming contest at Peruvian Gulch.
Austin Reed, a University of Utah student, aimed to bring the celebratory spirit seen at nearby Alta Ski Area and remarked, “Everyone’s just here in shorts and T-shirts. I’m loving it.” Snowbird ended its season with 170 operating days and 542 inches of snow, while Solitude, its closest competitor, finished earlier due to declining conditions.
For skiers like Josh Keller, the end of the lift-served season was bittersweet, as he anticipated continuing to ski into the summer months. With high spirits and a countdown to next season already underway, Snowbird’s closing day proved to be both a nostalgic farewell and a celebration of camaraderie among snow enthusiasts.
