BYU Men’s Golf Team Advances in NCAA Championships

PROVO, UT – The BYU men’s golf team enjoyed a momentous weekend at the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California, significantly improving their standing to advance to the final day of stroke-play competition. After a day spent attending worship services, the Cougars posted a score of 14-over-par 878, which secured a spot in the top 15, overcoming the cut by three strokes.

Led by sophomore Peter Kim, who shot 217 (71-74-72), BYU jumped from 18th to 12th place, thanks in part to strong performances from junior Tyson Shelley and senior Zac Jones. Shelley initially led the team with a solid 71-73 but slightly faltered in the third round with an 81. With this success, BYU aims for their first-ever match play appearance since its inception.

Worthy of note, the team received exciting news off the course, adding Oklahoma State transfer Parker Bunn for the 2024-25 season. Coach Bruce Brockbank praised Bunn, highlighting his talent and potential to impact the team immediately. The final round on Monday follows a sudden-death playoff for the 15th spot between Georgia Tech and Wake Forest.
