Utah Native Zavier Gozo Scores First-Ever RSL Goal in Home Loss to Vancouver

Real Salt Lake Falls Short in Thrilling Match Against Vancouver

Sandy, Utah (May 24, 2025) – Real Salt Lake (RSL) started their match against Vancouver Whitecaps with unprecedented intensity, scoring twice within the first five minutes. Newly graduated high schooler Zavier Gozo opened the scoring just 50 seconds in—marking his first goal for the club—and U.S. Men’s National Team player Diego Luna followed with a strike just minutes later.

However, Vancouver, the league leaders, fought back bravely. Captain Brian White’s header from a 20th-minute corner kick pulled one back, before he equalized from the penalty spot five minutes later after a handball by RSL’s William Agada.

The match remained heated in the second half, with both teams hunting for the decisive goal. Vancouver’s Pedro Vite finally broke the deadlock in the 90th minute with a stunning left-footed curling shot, securing a 3-2 victory for the visitors.

This defeat extends RSL’s winless streak to five matches, placing them at 12th in the Western Conference with just 14 points from 15 games. The team will seek to rebound in their upcoming away fixtures against Austin FC and LA Galaxy.
