U.S. Citizen Arrested for Allegedly Plotting to Bomb U.S. Embassy in Israel

Joseph Neumayer, a 28-year-old dual American and German citizen, was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport on Sunday after allegedly attempting to firebomb the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel. Neumayer was earlier detained in Israel on May 19 after an aggressive encounter with a security guard at the embassy, where he left behind a backpack containing three rudimentary Molotov cocktails. Following his confrontation, he made incendiary posts on social media, stating intentions to burn down the embassy and expressing hatred towards America and Americans. He also threatened to assassinate former President Donald Trump.

The U.S. Justice Department stated that Neumayer was transferred to American authorities and would be prosecuted for his threats and actions. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized the government’s commitment to not tolerate such violent behavior, while FBI Director Kash Patel assured that justice would be sought for his dangerous actions. Neumayer faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

His arrest follows a tragic incident where two staff members of the Israeli Embassy in Washington were killed during an attack after an event at the Capital Jewish Museum. The suspect in that shooting, Elias Rodriguez, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, reportedly shouting “Free, free Palestine” during his arrest. This situation has sparked significant reactions, including condemnation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described the shooting as a “horrifying antisemitic murder.”

The story is ongoing, with further updates expected.
