ACU Baseball Advances to WAC Championship Game with Dominant Wins

MESA, Ariz. — The Abilene Christian University baseball team showcased its talent and determination in the WAC Tournament, overcoming No. 7 UT Arlington in a thrilling 9–7 victory before shutting out top-seeded Sacramento State 7–0 to secure a spot in the championship game.

The Wildcats began the day with a powerful performance against UT Arlington. A five-run first inning, highlighted by Reese Borho’s grand slam, set the tone for ACU, which never trailed. Borho’s contributions included four RBIs, while Diego Cardenas and Grant Watkins also made significant impacts with timely home runs.

In the nightcap, right-hander Chandler Benson delivered a masterclass with a complete-game shutout against Sacramento State, allowing just three hits and striking out 12 batters. ACU’s offense exploded early again, scoring four runs in the first inning. Key performances from Maddox Miesse and Watkins, who posted three RBIs, solidified the win.

The Wildcats now look ahead to the championship game against No. 3 Utah Valley at 5:00 p.m. CT. Should they win, a second game is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. CT, putting ACU one step away from a tournament title.
