Utah Military Cemeteries Honored as Among America’s Most Revered

Two military cemeteries in Utah, the Fort Douglas Post Cemetery in Salt Lake City and the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, have been recognized in a recent survey of America’s most revered burial grounds for veterans. Conducted by Choice Mutual, the survey ranked Fort Douglas Post Cemetery 39th and the Utah Veterans Cemetery 85th among 97 honored sites.

As Memorial Day approaches, active-duty soldier Lt. Col. Chris Kroeber urges Utahns to remember those who sacrificed their lives for freedom. He advocates taking time to reflect on the significance of the day, particularly in appreciating the liberties enjoyed today, made possible by these heroes.

Fort Douglas Post Cemetery, established in 1863, serves as a historic site with deep military roots, featuring monuments honoring soldiers from various conflicts. The Utah Veterans Cemetery, dedicated in 1990, provides a serene setting with views of the Wasatch Mountains, commemorating local veterans and their families.

Both cemeteries expect to attract numerous visitors adorned in patriotic spirit during the holiday weekend, emphasizing reflection and gratitude for those who served.
