USA Advances to Semi-Finals After Quarterfinal Victory Over Finland in World Championships
SALT LAKE CITY — The United States hockey team, fueled by strong performances from Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley, secured a spot in the semi-finals after defeating Finland 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the World Championships.
The Americans initially struggled to find their rhythm, but a precise saucer pass by Logan Cooley to Conor Garland ignited the squad, giving them an early 1-0 lead. Cooley’s playmaking prowess continued as he recorded two assists, raising his tournament point total to ten, which places him alongside Keller for second-most points on Team USA.
Despite falling behind early in the second period, the U.S. rallied with three unanswered goals, taking a commanding 4-2 lead into the final frame. Coach Ryan Warsofsky commended his team’s perseverance, stating, "We got off to a bit of a slow start but really found our game as time wore on." His sentiments were echoed by the players’ resilient performance against a skilled Finnish team.
Keller put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal in the closing minutes, further solidifying the U.S. victory. With their quarterfinal success, Team USA is set to compete for a medal, awaiting the winner of the Czechia vs. Canada matchup in the semi-finals.
