Heber Valley, Utah – Scenic Backways Open for Summer Travel
The Utah Department of Transportation has officially opened two of the state’s most beloved scenic backways for the summer season. The Mirror Lake Highway and the Alpine Loop, both renowned for their stunning views, are back in business as of Friday, May 24, heralded with the declaration that “Utah summers are so back.”
The Mirror Lake Scenic Backway (SR-150) stretches 70 miles through the picturesque Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, linking Heber Valley to the Wyoming border. Meanwhile, the Alpine Loop Scenic Backway (SR-92) offers a beautiful 24-mile route through the Wasatch Mountains, connecting American Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon.
As summer kicks off, the only remaining seasonal road yet to open is SR-153 to Mount Holly. All other scenic routes will remain accessible through fall 2025, ensuring that residents and visitors can enjoy the natural splendor of Utah’s landscapes. This includes SR-39 Monte Cristo, SR-65 East Canyon, SR-190 Guardsman Pass, and several others, providing ample options for summer adventures in the great outdoors.
