Utah State University Welcomes Dr. Trevor Short as Senior Associate Athletics Director
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State University (USU) is set to enhance its student-athlete support with the hiring of Dr. Trevor Short as the new senior associate athletics director for health, wellness, and performance. Diana Sabau, USU Vice President and Director of Athletics, announced the appointment, emphasizing Short’s wealth of experience in promoting holistic well-being and optimal athletic performance for student-athletes.
In his new role, Dr. Short will oversee critical departments including nutrition, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, and mental wellness. He aims to implement a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes student-athlete health while maximizing their performance on the field.
“Trevor’s experience will be instrumental in helping our student-athletes perform at their best,” said Sabau. “His addition signifies our commitment to modernizing our operations to future-proof health and wellness in athletics.”
Prior to joining USU, Dr. Short served as performance and sports scientist at the University of Hawai’i, Mānoa. During his tenure there, he designed initiatives to optimize student-athlete readiness and performance, managed technology for data analysis, and developed individualized athletic profiles.
“I am grateful for the opportunity and excited to foster a culture where health, wellness, and performance are key to organizational success,” Dr. Short stated. His vision includes creating a unified high-performance model that enhances athlete readiness and maximizes roster availability.
Dr. Short holds a Ph.D. in Kinesiology and extensive certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has published numerous peer-reviewed studies in athletic performance and previously worked with NFL athletes as a sports performance coach. His academic background includes degrees from California Polytechnic University, Humboldt.
With these strategic advancements, Utah State Athletics aims to establish itself as a national leader in athlete performance and well-being.
