Louisiana State Police arrested 59-year-old Connie Weeden from Slidell for allegedly aiding in the escape of ten inmates from Orleans Parish Jail on May 16. She is the third woman to be taken into custody in connection with the incident, charged with being an accessory after the fact for supposedly assisting the fugitives. Weeden has been booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center, though it remains unclear if she has secured legal representation.
To date, five of the escapees have been apprehended, while five still remain “unaccounted for.” The arrests of two other accomplices, Cortnie Harris and Corvanntay Baptiste, occurred on Wednesday, with both facing similar charges. Additionally, a maintenance worker named Sterling Williams was arrested for allegedly disabling a water supply to facilitate the inmates’ escape through a hole behind a toilet.
Investigators found that Weeden maintained phone contact with one of the fugitives, Jermaine Donald, both before and after the jailbreak. She reportedly transferred cash to him via a cellphone app following the escape. If convicted, Weeden and the other women could face up to five years in prison.
The police confirmed that efforts to locate the remaining fugitives would continue with local, state, and federal resources involved. A statement emphasized that assisting or concealing the escapees is a crime, and those caught will be held accountable. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the fugitives to reach out to the FBI, Crimestoppers, or the Louisiana State Police, with rewards totaling $20,000 for information leading to arrests.
