Utah Valley University Welcomes Basketball Commit Sherman Weatherspoon IV

OREM – Utah Valley University (UVU) men’s basketball head coach Todd Phillips has announced the signing of Sherman Weatherspoon IV, a talented 6-foot-3 guard from Frank Phillips College, for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

"We’re excited to welcome Sherman to the Wolverine family," Phillips stated. "He’s a tremendous young man with high character. His leadership, ball-handling skills, and ability to stretch the floor while attacking the basket will fill various roles for us. He’ll be a significant asset to our program."

In the 2024-25 season at Frank Phillips, Weatherspoon showcased his capabilities by averaging 10.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, starting in 32 out of 34 contests. He demonstrated a sharpshooting ability, hitting 34.0 percent of his three-pointers (68-of-200) and maintaining a solid free-throw percentage of 77.8 percent.

Before his time at Frank Phillips, Weatherspoon played for Valparaiso during the 2023-24 season, participating in 31 games and making 10 starts. He averaged 5.0 points per game and notably excelled with a perfect shooting night from beyond the arc against Murray State.

A Bowie, Maryland native, Weatherspoon’s basketball journey began at DeMatha Catholic before finishing high school at Bethesda-Chevy Chase, where he was instrumental in securing a regional championship and earning All-County and All-Region first team honors. He also spent a year at Golden State Prep, averaging an impressive 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Off the court, Weatherspoon has excelled academically, making the Dean’s List at Frank Phillips while being actively involved in community service initiatives. He is currently majoring in sports management.

This signing adds depth and energy to the Wolverines as they prepare for the upcoming season.
