Driver Dies in High-Speed Police Pursuit in Sevier County, Utah
SEVIER COUNTY, Utah — A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday evening when a driver was killed after rolling their vehicle while evading police on Interstate 70. The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) reported that the situation began when a vehicle sped past a trooper near milepost 30, near Joseph. Assisting troopers deployed spike strips about 10 miles further down I-70, but the driver continued at high speeds, ultimately swerving to avoid another set of spike strips near milepost 43. During this maneuver, the vehicle rolled off the roadway, resulting in the driver being ejected from the car.
Despite attempts by UHP troopers to administer life-saving measures and the call for a medical helicopter, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading the investigation into the incident. This tragic event underscores the dangers associated with high-speed pursuits and the risks involved for all parties.
