Utah Man Accused of Holding Girlfriend and Her Family Hostage for Six Months

Family Held Hostage by Daughter’s Boyfriend Facing Multiple Charges

In Millcreek, Utah, a 23-year-old man, Dominic Garcia, has been arrested on 28 charges for allegedly holding a family of seven hostage for nearly six months. The family welcomed Garcia into their home in December 2024, but trouble began when he claimed his family was involved with a cartel and insisted they follow his orders to remain safe.

According to an affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Garcia terrorized the family, making threats to kill them if they disobeyed. He reportedly forced his pregnant girlfriend and her family to endure a grueling “boot camp” and limited their movements, allowing only two hours outside the home per day. He also monitored their phone usage and created an environment of fear, claiming the cartel would retaliate against them.

The family’s ordeal culminated when they held Garcia at gunpoint out of desperation, prompting police intervention. Upon his arrest, Garcia confessed to many accusations, including the fabricated cartel threats, citing fear of losing the family’s affection. He remains in jail without bail, as the family continues to fear for their safety, believing he poses a continued threat.
