Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Issued Across Northern Utah
WEBER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has expanded its Severe Thunderstorm Warning to include areas such as southwestern Weber County, west-central Salt Lake County, southwestern Davis County, and east-central Tooele County. The warning, originally issued for Box Elder and Tooele counties, is now valid until 1:30 PM MDT.
As of 12:58 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected near Stansbury Park, moving northeast at 40 mph, with gusts recorded at speeds of up to 65 mph. The affected locations include Salt Lake City, Tooele, Grantsville, Magna, and the Tooele Army Depot, along with areas near the Great Salt Lake.
In addition, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been put into effect until 8 PM for multiple counties, including Box Elder, Morgan, Summit, Wasatch, Cache, Rich, Tooele, Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah Counties.
Earlier, just before 12:30 PM, the NWS reported another severe storm located 12 miles north of Clive, also advancing northeast at 40 mph. This storm produced wind gusts up to 64 mph and prompted warnings of potential damage to roofs, siding, and trees, particularly in the Utah Test and Training Range North and nearby locations.
Residents in the impacted areas are advised to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of their homes. The situation remains under close monitoring, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
