New Tractor Supply Store Set to Open in Dauphin County
DERRY TOWNSHIP, PA – Tractor Supply Company has announced its plans to establish a new store in Derry Township at the site of the former Big Lots, located within the Hershey Square shopping center at 1170 Mae St. This acquisition comes after Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2023 and subsequently closed many of its stores, including the Derry Township location, which had been in operation for less than four years.
Tractor Supply secured the lease through an auction process, acquiring it along with 18 other former Big Lots leases across 15 states. While specific details regarding the store in Hummelstown have not yet been disclosed, the company aims to expand its presence, catering to customers interested in rural lifestyle retailing.
As of December 28, 2024, Tractor Supply operates 2,296 stores in 49 states, and is a well-known destination for farming, gardening, and outdoor living supplies. Currently, the retailer has two locations within Dauphin County, situated in West Hanover and Washington Townships, enhancing local access to a range of agricultural and pet products.
The former Big Lots location was one of a series of businesses that opened on a site previously occupied by a Kmart, highlighting the ongoing transformation of the area following the closure of longstanding retail spaces. The new Tractor Supply store is anticipated to create jobs and provide diverse offerings for the community, further contributing to the region’s economic growth.
The official opening date for the Derry Township store has not been announced, but the addition of another Tractor Supply outlet demonstrates the company’s commitment to serving rural communities across the nation.
