Sandy, Utah – Local Bus Drivers Compete for Title of ‘Utah’s Best’
On Saturday, around 20 bus drivers showcased their skills at the Utah Bus Roadeo Competition held in Sandy’s Canyons School District. The event, running from 8 a.m. to noon, had drivers navigating through a series of obstacles, testing their abilities in tasks such as driving in a straight line and parallel parking.
Among the participants was 21-year-old James Burnell, a Brigham Young University student who has only been driving buses for four months. He approached the competition with enthusiasm, hoping to improve on his skills despite finishing fourth due to missing a turn signal. “It was just about ranking a personal record,” Burnell remarked.
The winner of the event was Jeremy Klung from the Canyons School District, who claimed the top title for the second consecutive year with a remarkable score of 705 out of 750 points. He will represent Utah at the American Public Transportation Association’s International Bus Roadeo in Austin, Texas, at the end of June, where he aims to improve on last year’s performance.
The competition highlighted the dedication and skill of Utah’s bus drivers, celebrating their commitment to safety and excellence on the road.
