SALT LAKE CITY — In a significant endorsement, former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Rob Axson for the leadership of the Utah Republican Party, favoring the incumbent over former legislator Phil Lyman. Though Lyman was pardoned by Trump after being convicted for leading an illegal ATV protest in southern Utah, he has dismissed the impact of Trump’s endorsement of Axson. "My support for Donald Trump is not contingent on his support for me. We have work to do," Lyman stated via social media.
The contest to lead the influential political party in Utah will culminate on Saturday, May 17, at the state party’s organizing convention in Orem, where thousands of delegates will cast their votes.
