Mavericks Triumph Over Trailblazers with 11-1 Victory
ST. GEORGE, Utah – The University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) showcased a dominating performance against Utah Tech, securing an emphatic 11-1 victory on Friday. Every starter contributed to the offensive onslaught, with the Mavericks scoring in multiple innings to propel their season record to 18-27, including 10-9 in conference play.
Sophomore pitcher Caylon Dygert (6-3) earned the win, delivering six strong innings while allowing just one run and striking out five. Sophomore Kyle Winkler followed suit with two innings of shutout relief. The Mavericks seized the lead in the second inning with an RBI single from junior Jake Martinez, paving the way for a two-run homer from Xavier Melendez, extending the lead to 3-0.
Despite Utah Tech narrowing the gap to 3-1, UT Arlington responded decisively with two runs in the seventh and an impressive six-run eighth inning, capped off by a two-run shot from freshman Austin Phillips. The Mavericks registered 15 hits, significantly outpacing the Trailblazers’ eight.
