Utah State Welcomes BYU Transfers Under New Coach Mendenhall
Logan, UT – A noteworthy trend is emerging for Utah State University (USU) under the leadership of new head coach Bronco Mendenhall – a significant influx of players transferring from BYU. Since Mendenhall’s appointment in December, over 40 new recruits have joined the Aggies, including several Cougars who are expected to make a considerable impact.
Among the latest transfers are running back Miles Davis, center Jake Eichorn, punter Landon Rehkow, defensive tackle Carson Tujague, and safety Chika Ebunoha. Official announcements regarding Tujague and Ebunoha were made just days ago, further bolstering the roster ahead of the 2025 season.
Davis is expected to form a dynamic backfield alongside New Mexico transfer Javen Jacobs, while Eichorn is poised to solidify the center position. Rehkow’s arrival comes after the departure of Will Safris, positioning him as the likely starting punter. Both Tujague and Ebunoha, though currently depth players, could see significant playing time as the season progresses.
Head coach Mendenhall emphasized the necessity for both depth and immediate contributors to ensure competitiveness. “Not only (for) some depth, but there are some players that we have a more immediate need for as well,” he noted, highlighting the trend of roster reshaping in college football.
As the transfer portal remains an active recruiting ground, at least 10 former BYU players continue to seek new opportunities, with many potentially eyeing Logan as their next destination. Historically, the pipeline from BYU to USU has thrived, and recent developments indicate that this trend may only intensify under Mendenhall’s guidance.
With 2025 on the horizon, the Aggies hope to capitalize on this burgeoning BYU-to-USU pipeline, aiming for success that surpasses previous seasons.
