Angel City FC Triumphs Amidst Medical Emergency in 2-0 Victory Over Utah Royals
LOS ANGELES — In a dramatic NWSL match at BMO Stadium on May 9, 2025, Angel City FC secured a 2-0 victory against the Utah Royals. The triumph, however, was overshadowed by the concerning collapse of defender Savy King during the second half.
King, 20, fell to the ground in the 74th minute after clearing the ball, prompting immediate medical attention. Assistant coach Eleri Earnshaw assured fans that King was responsive and being evaluated at a local hospital alongside her family. The game was paused for nearly 15 minutes, with both teams later gathering at midfield for a prayer circle to support King.
Just before the incident, Christen Press, returning from a long injury layoff, scored just 25 seconds after entering the match, marking her first goal in over a year.
