Utah House Minority Leader Jefferson Moss Steps Down to Lead Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity
Saratoga Springs, UT — In a significant transition, Utah House Minority Leader Jefferson Moss (R-Saratoga Springs) has announced his resignation from the Utah Legislature as he prepares to assume the role of executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO). Since 2017, Moss has represented House District 51, encompassing Saratoga Springs and parts of Lehi, advocating for public education, government efficiency, and economic development.
Governor Spencer Cox appointed Moss, emphasizing his unique blend of public and private sector experience. “Jefferson Moss has been a driving force behind many of Utah’s forward-thinking initiatives,” Cox stated, expressing confidence in Moss’s capability to spearhead economic strategy for the state.
Moss’s legislative career includes key positions in House majority leadership roles since 2019, demonstrating his commitment to enhancing opportunities for Utah families. “Serving the people of House District 51 has been a true honor,” Moss remarked. He will officially step down on May 30 and begin as interim executive director of GOEO on June 2, pending Senate confirmation. The House Majority Caucus will conduct a special leadership election in the weeks ahead to fill his position.
