Former Utah QB Cam Rising Joins Michigan Football as Future Quarterback Coach

Cam Rising Announces Medical Retirement, Takes On Coaching Role at Newbury Park High School

Utah quarterback Cam Rising has officially announced his medical retirement from football but is set to embrace a new chapter in his life. Rising will take the helm as the offensive coordinator at Newbury Park High School in California starting in 2025.

Rising will be mentoring Brady Smigiel, a highly regarded four-star quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class and a Michigan Wolverines commitment. Smigiel expressed excitement about having Rising, a lifelong role model, in a coaching capacity. "I literally couldn’t have a better scenario," Smigiel stated, highlighting his admiration for Rising’s impact on his career. The young quarterback even honored Rising by wearing the number 7, a nod to the former Utes star.

Smigiel shared how he looks forward to learning from Rising, mentioning, “I used to be stoked when Cam would come out to a practice where I trained in the offseason. Right now, I get to work with him and pick his brain every single day.” He recently posted a motivational video welcoming Rising aboard.

Rising’s coaching experience will certainly benefit Smigiel, who is already recognized for leading Utah to its first two Rose Bowl appearances. “I get to really coach him up and teach him the correct way to approach football,” Rising commented on his new role.

With the partnership between Rising and Smigiel, many are eager to see how this collaboration will help elevate Smigiel’s ranking, currently standing as the No. 80 prospect and No. 7 quarterback for the 2026 class. As Rising transitions into coaching, both he and Smigiel are poised for promising futures.
