Artificial Intelligence Has the Potential to Transform Homebuilding in Utah

Advanced Technology in Homebuilding: A Game Changer for Utah’s Housing Crisis

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KUTV) — As Utah battles soaring housing costs and a pressing need for increased inventory, the integration of advanced technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), could offer a solution. However, many builders are not maximizing its potential. Claude and Wendy Bethea, an empty-nester couple, are documenting their journey to construct their dream home on YouTube, serving as a case study in utilizing cutting-edge technology.

Claude, a partner at SoLux Home, combines his tech industry background with homebuilding, implementing digital modeling for virtual walkthroughs to catch errors before construction begins. He highlights that about 95% of builders are yet to adopt these innovations. While AI has the potential to cut build times by 30% and reduce costs, the industry struggles with a workforce unfamiliar with these technologies.

Professor Abbas Rashidi at the University of Utah underscores the need for integrating hands-on labor with automation. The Utah Homebuilders’ Association is also exploring AI to streamline permitting processes, showcasing the shift toward smarter building practices. Both experts agree that AI could significantly transform home construction in Utah and beyond, heralding a new era of efficiency and affordability.
