Utah Hockey Club Transforms into Utah Mammoth: A New Era Begins
In a historic announcement, the Utah Hockey Club has officially rebranded as the Utah Mammoth, a name that honors the majestic creature that roamed the state over 10,000 years ago. This change follows an extensive 13-month-long process involving four rounds of fan voting, with over 850,000 ballots cast. The announcement was made by Ryan and Ashley Smith, the club’s owners, who emphasized their commitment to creating a team that resonates with the local community.
“From Day 1, we committed that this team would be built with and for the people of Utah,” the Smiths stated, celebrating the community-driven decision. The team, which played its first season as Utah Hockey Club after relocating from Arizona in 2024, will retain its original color scheme of rock black, salt white, and mountain blue in the new jersey designs.
The home jerseys prominently feature a logo depicting the Wasatch Mountain Range and subtle nods to the state of Utah. The away jerseys showcase a “UTA” design to ensure the state remains front and center when visiting other arenas.
The journey to this name change faced hurdles, including trademark issues with the potential name "Yeti," leading to the final options of Utah Mammoth, Utah Wasatch, and Utah Hockey Club. Eventually, the Mammoth emerged as the favorite choice of fans, bolstered by support from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which owns teams with similar branding.
Limited Mammoth merchandise will be available at the Delta Center starting Wednesday, with more options rolling out next week. Fans can look forward to seeing future draft picks donning black Mammoth jerseys as the team gears up for the 2025-26 NHL season. “Est. 2024” will be stitched within the jerseys, marking the beginning of a new chapter for hockey in Utah.
