Aguirre-Stewart Named USU Student-Athlete of the Week
LOGAN, Utah – Diego Aguirre-Stewart, a freshman track and field athlete at Utah State University, has been recognized as the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending May 4. This award, determined by a state-wide media panel, reflects Aguirre-Stewart’s outstanding performance at the BYU-hosted Robison Invitational.
During the event, Aguirre-Stewart captured the individual title in the 200-meter race with a remarkable time of 20.90 seconds, propelling him from sixth to fourth in the university’s all-time records for the event. In addition, he posted an impressive prelim time of 10.55 seconds in the 100 meters, ranking him sixth in the Mountain West Conference this season.
Utah State’s track and field program will be active again as select athletes head to the Franson Last Chance meet in Azusa, California, on May 9-10. Following this, the Aggies will compete at the 2025 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, California, from May 15-17. Aguirre-Stewart was recognized among other notable nominees for the award, including senior softball player Olivia Marble and junior women’s track and field athlete Sophie Chandler. Marble excelled at the plate with a .500 batting average over three games, while Chandler placed second in the heptathlon, posting three personal bests and securing a top-six school ranking.
