Family Responds to Deadly Crash in Idaho

GARDEN CITY, Utah (KUTV) — A local family is grappling with a wave of emotions after witnessing a tragic crash in Idaho on Thursday, which resulted in seven fatalities. Terah Motzkus and her family rushed to assist those involved in the accident while returning home from dinner.

Motzkus’s husband played a critical role, using a knife to free a trapped individual and an ax to attempt rescue efforts for others stuck inside the tour van, which had caught fire. "It was really hard," Motzkus recalled. "My husband could still hear at least one person calling out."

In a bid to help, Motzkus used diapers from her car to aid a woman who had suffered a severe leg injury. "She was in shock… kept saying she wanted to go home," Motzkus recounted, highlighting the harrowing experience as the woman asked about her friend, who sadly did not survive.

The Motzkus family credits fellow good Samaritans who joined in the rescue efforts. The crash, involving a pickup truck and a van heading to Yellowstone National Park, is currently under investigation as the community reflects on the tragedy.
