Utes Fall Short in ASUN Championship Battle Against Air Force Academy
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In a thrilling showdown at Rock Stadium, the University of Utah lacrosse team succumbed to a narrow defeat against the Air Force Academy Falcons, ending the ASUN Championship game with an 11-10 scoreline on Sunday afternoon.
This closely contested match mirrored their earlier encounter this season, with both teams showcasing their skill by remaining deadlocked at multiple intervals. However, it was the Falcons who ultimately seized control in the fourth quarter. Despite a spirited effort from the Utes to close the gap, they fell short in the closing moments.
Freshman standout Luke McNamara continued to shine, scoring his fifth hat trick of the season, while junior Ryan Stines contributed significantly with two goals and two assists, totaling four points. Sophomore Cade Faulkner also made his mark, adding crucial goals alongside senior Cody Hart, junior Will Overly, and freshman Chase Robertson.
On the defensive front, junior Tyler Kleockl excelled, leading the team with six ground balls and winning 15 out of 24 face-offs, marking an impressive 71.4% success rate. His performance places him tenth in Utah’s single-game record book. In goal, junior Colin Lenskold kept the Falcons at bay with six saves, facing a daunting 38 shots throughout the match.
Despite outshooting the Falcons 45-38 and matching them in ground balls at 30, the Utes couldn’t secure the victory.
