Tobias Merriweather, Transfer Wide Receiver, Joins Utah Football Team

Utah Football Secures Key Transfers, Enhancing Offensive Firepower and Defensive Depth

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah football program scored significant wins in the transfer portal this week, landing former California and Notre Dame receiver Tobias Merriweather, who officially committed and signed with the Utes. At 6-foot-5, Merriweather adds height and potential to an already bolstered receiver corps, joining fellow transfer Larry Simmons from Southern Miss. This marks the second receiver commitment this week and the 20th overall in Utah’s transfer class.

Merriweather’s journey includes three seasons and 26 receptions for 450 yards and four touchdowns, making his signing a valuable addition as Utah continues to enhance its offensive lineup. His decision came after competing with UCLA for his services, marking a significant win for Utah’s recruiting efforts.

Meanwhile, the Utes also welcomed cornerback Jaylen Moson, a redshirt sophomore with notable versatility and three years of eligibility remaining. Moson appeared in five games last season, recording 20 tackles and an interception, bringing much-needed depth to Utah’s defensive secondary.

Additional commitments included JC Hart, another cornerback, and a host of offensive players like receiver Justin Stevenson and quarterback Nate Johnson, who is returning after a spell at Vanderbilt. Stevenson was a deep threat at Wyoming, while Johnson provides familiarity within Utah’s new offensive system.

The Utes have actively pursued a diverse range of talent across positions, confirming seven total transfers thus far. With continued engagement in the transfer market, head coach Kyle Whittingham aims to solidify the team’s competitive edge for the upcoming season.

As Utah seeks to enhance both offensive firepower and defensive capabilities, fans are eagerly anticipating the impact these players will have in the 2025 season.
