Oklahoma State Softball Triumphs Over Utah with Strong Performance
STILLWATER — The No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowgirls seized a 7-4 victory against Utah on Friday, bolstered by a standout pitching display from Ruby Meylan, who recorded ten strikeouts and her 20th win of the season.
With this win, Oklahoma State improved to 31-17 overall and 11-9 in the Big 12, while the Utes fell to 13-37, marking a 5-17 conference record. Meylan’s season milestone places her among just 23 Cowgirls to achieve 20 wins in a season, further establishing her impact on the team.
The game saw an early lead for Utah when Emily Capobianco blasted a two-run home run in the fourth inning. However, the Cowgirls quickly turned the tide. In their half of the fourth, Claire Timm’s leadoff double paved the way for Micaela Wark’s two-run homer, marking her seventh of the season. With the bases loaded, Amanda Hasler was hit by a pitch, bringing in the go-ahead run.
The Cowgirls added three more runs in the fifth, initiated by Timm’s impressive third hit of the night. Key contributions came from Megan Bloodworth, Megan Delgadillo, and Tallen Edwards, who all delivered RBI doubles, while Rosie Davis capped the inning with a single.
Despite a late push from the Utes with two more runs in the sixth, their efforts fell short. Meylan’s stellar performance solidified her place among the top strikeout leaders in Oklahoma State history.
Standouts for the Cowgirls included Timm (3-for-4, 1 double), Wark (1-for-3, 1 HR, 2 RBIs), and Delgadillo (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs).
The Cowgirls look to maintain their momentum in the series with a second game scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m., available via live stream on ESPN+. For more information and tickets, visit okstate.com.
