Utah Royals FC Falls to North Carolina Courage in 2-0 Defeat
Sandy, Utah (May 3, 2025) – Utah Royals FC suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against North Carolina Courage at America First Field, marking their second consecutive loss of the season. The Royals now sit in 13th place in the league standings with just four points from seven matches.
Head Coach Jimmy Coenraets made two significant changes to the lineup, including the debut of 15-year-old KK Ream, the youngest player to start in NWSL history. Despite a promising start, Utah’s defense faltered as the Courage capitalized on a rebound, allowing Ashley Sanchez to score the opening goal in the 12th minute. The Royals then faced further misfortune just before halftime when an attempted clear resulted in an own goal by defender Kate Del Fava, bringing the score to 2-0.
The second half saw the Royals exhibit more attacking intent, but they struggled to convert scoring chances, marked by a missed penalty opportunity for the Courage. Utah will aim to bounce back in their upcoming match against Angel City FC in Los Angeles on May 9. The match is set to kick off at 8:30 PM MT.
