Boise State Rallies to Edge Utah State in Thriller
BOISE, Idaho – In a nail-biting contest at Huber Field, Utah State softball fell to Boise State, 7-6, on Friday night. The loss leaves Utah State with a record of 26-24 overall and 11-10 in Mountain West play.
The game began with a quiet first inning, but the Aggies ignited the offense in the second with three consecutive solo home runs from the bottom of the batting order. Senior Olivia Marble, junior Alex Bunton, and senior Lyndsey Madrigal each cleared the fences, giving Utah State a 3-0 lead.
Despite the early advantage, Boise State responded quickly, scoring its first run with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the second. Both teams exchanged runs in the third inning, with Utah State’s senior Giselle Gonzalez contributing an RBI single. This was followed by a productive fourth inning for the Broncos, who evened the score at 4-4 with two runs.
The Aggies regained their lead in the fifth with a two-out RBI from junior Kya Pratt. They extended the lead to 6-4 in the sixth, thanks to another RBI double from Marble. However, Boise State struck back dramatically, scoring three runs with a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead 7-6.
Utah State could not mount a comeback in the seventh, retiring in order. Marble led the Aggies offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Junior right-hander Rylie Pindel took the loss, allowing seven earned runs over six innings.
