Utah Football Extends Offer to Syracuse Defensive Back Commit

Utah Football Eyes Syracuse Commit Jackson Gates Amid Active Recruiting Season

The University of Utah’s football program has intensified its recruitment efforts by extending a scholarship offer to promising cornerback Jackson Gates, a 6-foot-1 standout from Damien High School in California. Gates, who committed to Syracuse in November, remains open to exploring other offers, showcasing a growing interest from multiple programs.

Gates announced the Utah offer on social media following a meaningful conversation with Utah staff, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity. Despite his verbal commitment to Syracuse, he has been proactive in assessing his options, having already hosted a visit from UNLV’s defensive backs coach and planning trips to both Syracuse and Michigan State in June.

In addition to Utah, Gates has garnered attention from several schools including Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, and Oregon State. His impressive athleticism was highlighted this spring when he clocked a remarkable 10.48 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the Baseline League Championships, enhancing his appeal on the football field.

Ranked as the No. 81 cornerback in the class of 2026 by 247Sports Composite and listed among California’s top-80 recruits, Gates exemplifies the talent that programs like Utah are eager to bring on board. The Utes’ current 2026 recruiting class already includes three-star edge rusher Preston Pitts and three-star tight end Colby Simpson, further establishing their competitive edge in recruiting.

As the recruiting landscape continues to evolve, Utah hopes to secure Gates’ commitment, adding to their impressive roster of talent as they prepare for the upcoming seasons.
