University of Utah Celebrates Class of 2025 with Inspiring Commencement Ceremony
The University of Utah marked its annual commencement ceremony on Thursday, celebrating the graduation of approximately 8,900 students in the Class of 2025. Veteran ESPN commentator and alumna Holly Rowe delivered the keynote address, sharing her journey from a “mediocre student” to a premier sports journalist. Reflecting on her early challenges, Rowe emphasized the necessity of perseverance and “irrational confidence” in achieving dreams. “Very few of today’s graduates will immediately land their dream job,” she noted, urging graduates to envision their future and work diligently towards it. Rowe also spoke candidly about her battle with Stage 4 metastatic cancer and encouraged continual personal growth and embracing diversity.
Student speaker Tracie Yellowman Tséyíníítso, a proud Diné (Navajo) woman, connected her academic journey to her ancestors’ resilience. Despite facing a myriad of challenges, she reminded her fellow graduates of their inherent strength and capability to adapt.
University President Taylor Randall affirmed the importance of community, welcoming graduates into the ranks of over 300,000 alumni. The ceremony also honored four recipients with honorary degrees, celebrating their significant contributions to education, arts, and public advocacy, showcasing the university’s commitment to cultivating leaders in diverse fields.
