Bountiful, Utah — Early Morning Highway Birth
In a remarkable turn of events, Brinnlie and Jason Knavel welcomed their newborn daughter, Jenna Lynn Knavel, on the side of I-15 around 1:20 a.m. while en route to the University of Utah. As contractions intensified, Brinnlie felt a sudden urge to push, describing an unexpected calmness amidst the chaos. “I had this calm spiritual feeling of ‘breathe and push’,” she recounted.
While Jason was on the phone with the hospital, he quickly realized the gravity of the situation. “I dial 911… and I see my daughter,” he shared. Paramedics from South Davis Metro Fire arrived promptly, finding Brinnlie in the passenger seat with Jenna already wrapped in her coat.
Captain Riley Sayre noted the rarity of such calls but emphasized the team’s preparedness, having completed recent OB training. The paramedics presented the family with a onesie and baby blanket, celebrating the safe arrival of Jenna.
Brinnlie expressed her gratitude to all who assisted, reflecting on the experience as both beautiful and less frightening than anticipated. Now, the Knavels will forever remember this highway as the place where their daughter entered the world.
