Discover Utah’s Sporting Legacy at the Utah Sports Hall of Fame Museum
SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Nestled within City Creek Mall, the Utah Sports Hall of Fame Museum is a treasure trove of sports history, celebrating the state’s athletic legends. Mae Miya, a foundation employee and dedicated contributor, showcases a rare signed photo of basketball icons John Stockton, Carl Malone, and Jeff Hornacek—a highlight among the thousands of artifacts on display.
The museum boasts over 250 inductees, including Olympians, world champions, and record holders, each with their own stories brought to life through interactive exhibits. Notable memorabilia includes Gene Fullmer’s 1957 middleweight championship belt and Jimmy Shea’s gold medal sled from the 2002 Olympics. Known figures share space with lesser-known heroes, such as Arnie Ferron, a 1944 college basketball MVP and former athletic director.
Marketing director Tim Carr emphasizes the museum’s well-curated exhibits, stating, “You can get lost in here and really spend a lot of time.” Many visitors, drawn by curiosity, are often out-of-state guests who enjoy sharing their experiences, prompting repeat visits.
The museum also garners support from local businesses, such as Mountain America Credit Union, which recently made a donation to aid ongoing preservation efforts. “It is amazing what you are doing here,” said Steve Wright, expressing the credit union’s commitment to supporting Utah sports history.
For those looking to learn more or contribute, the museum invites visits at 99 West South Temple, Suite 102, or donations can be made online. The Utah Sports Hall of Fame Museum stands as a vital resource for preserving and celebrating Utah’s rich sporting heritage.
