Where Is Cameron Rising? Star Utah Quarterback Goes Undrafted and Declines Transfer Portal Option

Cameron Rising’s Football Journey Comes Full Circle

Salt Lake City, UT – Former Utah quarterback Cameron Rising, once a centerpiece of the Utes’ football program, appears to have stepped away from the game amid a series of injuries and changes. Rising, who could have returned for the 2025 college football season, hasn’t taken any further steps toward that possibility, as coach Kyle Whittingham noted the absence of Rising from the roster during a recent spring press conference.

Since transferring to Utah in 2019, Rising’s college career has been a rollercoaster. He faced a mandatory sitting period due to NCAA transfer rules and dealt with injuries that ultimately sidelined him for the entire 2023 season. In 2024, after returning, Rising suffered a significant hand injury and later tweaked his knee, leading to a disappointing final season where he threw three interceptions against Arizona State.

With over 6,000 passing yards and nearly 1,000 rushing yards in his collegiate career, Rising led the Utes to remarkable achievements, including two Pac-12 championships. However, his injury setbacks significantly impacted the team’s performance, contributing to a decline in records over the past seasons, including a disappointing 5-7 finish last year after being favorites in their inaugural Big 12 season.

Currently, Rising’s future remains uncertain. While he has the option for a medical redshirt, there are no indications he is considering this route. As Utah moves forward, having recruited three new scholarship quarterbacks, Rising’s legacy as a college football icon stands overshadowed by his recent struggles. With his disability insurance policy now potentially guiding his next chapter, fans can only hope for the best for a player who has given so much to the sport.
