University of Utah Men’s Golf Team Heads to NCAA Regionals
SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah Men’s Golf team is poised to make its mark at the NCAA Regionals for the fourth time in five seasons. Set to travel to Bremerton, Washington, as the No. 3 seed, the Utes aim for a shot at the national championship.
Head coach Garrett Clegg expressed pride in the team’s progression, emphasizing that reaching the national championship is a primary objective. "It’s not easy to get there, but our program has made a habit of postseason appearances," he noted. The Utes’ journey to regionals reflects a commitment to high-level performance under pressure, showcased by their four tournament victories this season.
Utah’s consistent regional presence has become notable; the team is making back-to-back appearances for the third time in program history. Their postseason journey began during the 2020-21 season with a seventh-place finish at the Cle Elum Regional. Following that, they placed fifth at the Norman Regional and competed in the NCAA Championships for the first time. Last season marked a significant turnaround, as the Utes finished fourth at the Austin Regional, securing a second trip to the NCAA Championships.
This season has been historic for Utah, achieving four team titles and five individual crowns—both records under a single season. Players like Sergio Jimenez and Davis Johnson achieved their first collegiate titles, contributing to the team’s well-rounded success.
In the 14-team Bremerton Regional, Utah will compete against schools like Arizona State and Florida. Six 54-hole regional tournaments will determine the final qualifying teams and individuals for the NCAA Championships, set for 2025 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. The Utes aim to continue their impressive postseason streak and make a deep run in the tournament.
