UNLV Dominates Utah Tech in 17-3 Victory
ST. GEORGE, Utah – The UNLV Hustlin’ Rebels (24-20) showcased their offensive prowess with a commanding 17-3 victory over Utah Tech (17-25) on Tuesday night at Bruce Hurst Field. This win marks the Rebels’ fifth consecutive victory, tying their season high.
The game began slowly, but UNLV ignited in the second inning with back-to-back two-run home runs from Nicky Garritano and Dean Toigo, taking a 4-0 lead. Utah Tech’s Ryan Kroepel responded with a two-run homer in the third, narrowing the score to 4-2. However, UNLV turned the tide in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a fielding error to score five runs. Toigo’s two-RBI double, followed by additional runs from Elijah Rodriguez and Cole Koniarsky, pushed the lead to 9-2.
The Rebels continued their offensive explosion, scoring six runs in the eighth inning. Koniarsky delivered a grand slam, finishing with six RBI. Toigo matched this performance, also driving in six runs. UNLV’s lineup proved unstoppable, recording 17 hits with each starter contributing.
Looking ahead, the Rebels will head to San Jose State for their next conference series, starting May 2 at 6:05 PM.
