As the contest heats up ahead of the June 10 primary to fill the term-limited seat of Gov. Phil Murphy, Gottheimer faces competition from notable figures including Rep. Mikie Sherrill and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. The New Jersey governor’s race, alongside Virginia’s, is expected to be highly competitive, particularly after Trump’s narrow loss in 2020, signaling a dynamic political landscape.
