Utah Secures Commitment from Southern Miss Transfer WR Larry Simmons – Deseret News

Utah Welcomes Wide Receiver Larry Simmons in Crucial Commitment

The University of Utah has strengthened its wide receiver corps with the commitment of former Southern Miss standout Larry Simmons, who announced his decision via social media on Sunday morning. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds, Simmons hails from Moss Point, Mississippi, and was a three-star recruit in the 2022 class, boasting an 89 grade from 247 Sports.

Initially committed to Ole Miss despite offers from prestigious programs like Alabama and Oregon, Simmons played only one offensive snap in two seasons with the Rebels, opting to transfer to Southern Miss before the 2024 season. There, he made a significant impact, recording 27 receptions for 421 yards and a touchdown last season.

His commitment comes at a pivotal time for Utah, especially following the departure of presumed WR1 Zacharyus Williams to USC. Simmons’s arrival adds to a receiver squad primarily composed of transfers, including talents from Mississippi State, Wyoming, and New Mexico, alongside returning players Luca Caldarella and Daidren Zipperer. With Simmons on board, Utah aims to enhance its offensive strategy as it prepares for the upcoming season.
