Press Release: South Salt Lake Police Detain Suspect in Homicide Case
South Salt Lake, Utah — On Sunday, July 27, South Salt Lake police successfully apprehended 21-year-old Salman Ahmed as a suspect in a recent homicide stemming from a shooting late Saturday night. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. near 2531 South and 400 East. Authorities detained Ahmed before 1 p.m. on Sunday for questioning.
Salman Ahmed has a troubling criminal history in Utah, having previously been arrested for a fatal shooting at a Millcreek 7-Eleven on November 11, 2022. That incident, a confrontation between rival gangs, resulted in the death of 18-year-old Talib Ahmed. Following the shooting, Ahmed was charged with several felonies including murder and obstruction of justice.
In July 2023, Ahmed faced additional legal troubles when he was caught attempting to sell cocaine. During an undercover operation, he was pursued by law enforcement, leading to a traffic stop where he was found in possession of a loaded firearm and drugs. He was subsequently booked on multiple felonies, including distribution of a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a restricted person.
The ongoing investigation has raised concerns about community safety as authorities continue to delve into Ahmed’s criminal activities.
