Miller Sports + Entertainment Joins Forces with David Blitzer in Major Soccer Acquisition
SANDY, UT (April 18, 2025) – In a significant move for Utah’s sports landscape, Miller Sports + Entertainment (MSE) has finalized its acquisition of a controlling interest in RSL Football Holdings, which includes Real Salt Lake (MLS), Utah Royals FC (NWSL), and Real Monarchs (MLS NEXT Pro). This strategic partnership marks a new era in local soccer, combining MSE’s community commitment with global sports expertise from investor David Blitzer.
MSE, established by the Miller family, has been a driving force in Utah’s sports and entertainment sector for over four decades. The acquisition encompasses crucial assets including America First Field and the Zions Bank Training Center, enhancing MSE’s already robust portfolio, which includes the Salt Lake Bees and a stake in the Utah Jazz.
Steve Starks, CEO of MSE, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are honored to invest in RSL and the Royals, elevating soccer in Utah and driving the Club’s pursuit of championships.” David Blitzer reiterated his excitement, emphasizing an alignment in vision and values to foster a championship culture and community engagement.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber highlighted this partnership’s potential, citing both Miller’s and Blitzer’s strong commitments to community and youth sports. NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman commended the expected boost to women’s soccer through this joint ownership.
Steve Miller will assume the chairman role for both Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC, with David Blitzer as alternate governor. Their unified approach will not only enhance the teams’ performance but also promote youth participation in sports, with over 190,000 young athletes currently involved in soccer across Utah.
