Miller Company Acquires Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC
Sandy, UT – The Larry H. Miller Company has made significant strides in the sports sector with the acquisition of Real Salt Lake (RSL) and Utah Royals FC, marking their return to major league sports. This transaction, reported to be valued at approximately $600 million, includes control over the Utah Monarchs, America First Field, and associated training facilities. The deal was formally announced on April 18, 2025, with executives from both the Miller Company and previous owner David Blitzer discussing the partnership’s potential.
Steve Starks, CEO of Miller Sports + Entertainment, expressed excitement about the future of both men’s and women’s soccer. “This really fits our strategy of helping build the community,” he stated. The acquisition will see the Miller family, longtime local sports leaders, enhancing the fan experience at America First Field through substantial renovations and improved amenities, including premium hospitality options.
Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Jazz, has exited his minority stake in the soccer teams to focus on other ventures, but has indicated support for the transition, highlighting the importance of local stewardship in maintaining soccer in Utah.
Blitzer will continue as the second-largest shareholder and emphasized his desire for local ownership for better day-to-day management. Both teams, which have weathered previous ownership challenges, aim to cultivate winning cultures and enhance community engagement.
The acquisition aligns with the Miller Company’s ongoing plans to expand its sports portfolio, which includes the Salt Lake Bees, as it positions itself strategically ahead of key global soccer events, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics. As the Millers embark on this new chapter, they are committed to driving growth and engagement in Utah’s soccer scene.
