Press Release: Empowering Women in Utah’s Business Landscape
Utah is widely recognized as a hotbed for business excellence, yet the crucial contributions of women remain largely underappreciated. Their entrepreneurial spirit is vital to the state’s economic dynamism, yet challenges persist, particularly in income equality and executive representation.
Despite ranking low in national studies on women’s equality, Utah has seen a remarkable 77% surge in women-owned businesses over the past two decades, second only to Nevada. Women now own over 44% of Utah’s small enterprises, showcasing their growing economic influence.
Key initiatives are underway to bolster this progress. The Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity’s Startup State Initiative provides resources and funding while the 100 Utah Companies Championing Women initiative promotes gender diversity in business. The Women’s Business Center of Utah has launched 292 new companies in 2024, creating over 1,300 jobs and generating $160 million in revenue.
To further enhance support, strategic recommendations include increasing capital access for women entrepreneurs, promoting diverse leadership, implementing flexible work policies, and establishing women-focused initiatives. By enriching opportunities for women, Utah can solidify its position as a leader in gender equity, fostering an environment where innovation and economic growth thrive for all.
