Cyclones Secure Victory in Game One Against Utah

Iowa State Defeats Utah in Big 12 Series Opener

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Iowa State emerged victorious on Friday, defeating Utah 6-2 in their Big 12 series opener. The win guarantees Iowa State (27-19, 12-7 Big 12) will finish .500 or above for only the third time in program history, with the potential for a second winning conference record.

The Cyclones jumped to a quick 2-0 lead, spurred by Tatum Johnson’s strong performance, including three hits, while teammates Angelina Allen and Sereniti Trice also achieved multi-hit games. Jaiden Ralston secured the win for Iowa State, allowing just one run in four innings, backed by reliever Lauren Schurman, who recorded her third save.

Utah (12-35, 4-15 Big 12) struggled offensively, managing only five hits, with Kaylah Nelsen leading the team with two. Despite scoring a run in the fourth and another in the sixth, the Utes’ efforts fell short.

Iowa State will look to continue their momentum as they face Utah again on Saturday at 1 p.m., streamed live on ESPN+. Fans are eager to see if the Cyclones can maintain their winning streak.
