A woman has accused former Pro Football Hall of Famer and podcaster, Shannon Sharpe, of sexually assaulting and battering her in a lawsuit filed in Nevada. The woman alleges that Sharpe manipulated, controlled, and violated her during a rocky consensual relationship that lasted nearly two years, starting when she was 19 years old. She claims that Sharpe was aggressive, ignored her protests of “no,” and raped her on multiple occasions in Las Vegas. The lawsuit also alleges that Sharpe recorded sexual encounters without her consent and shared the videos with others. The woman’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, is seeking more than $50 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
Sharpe’s attorney, Lanny Davis, has denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit a “shakedown” filled with lies and distortions. Davis claims that the woman sent sexually graphic text messages to Sharpe and that their relationship was consensual. The lawsuit also alleges that Sharpe forced the woman to have sex with him while on FaceTime with a friend, and would aggressively put her “back in her place” whenever she objected to his behavior.
The lawsuit paints Sharpe as controlling and abusive, claiming that he would berate and physically intimidate the woman if she didn’t obey his demands. The complaint also references an incident where Sharpe live-streamed an intimate act with the woman on Instagram, which she alleges humiliated her and endangered her sexual health.
Sharpe, currently employed by ESPN, has not publicly commented on the lawsuit. Despite the allegations, Sharpe is considered a sports icon who won three Super Bowls during his NFL career and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
