The Technology Exploration and Product Engineering exhibition at Gitam University features the innovative work of young minds

Visakhapatnam: Gitam Deemed to be University, School of Technology recently organized an event to showcase the innovative projects developed by first-year engineering students as part of the newly introduced course, Technology Exploration and Product Engineering (TEP). The course, launched in the academic year 2023-24, focuses on project-based learning and product development skills. It aims to equip students with hands-on experience using power tools, 3D printing, and working with various materials like metal, plastic, and wood.

TEP promotes a ‘systems engineering’ approach by integrating mechanical operations, mechanisms, microcontrollers, sensors, and basic programming for component integration. Students work in teams to identify real-world problems and create functional prototypes within a budget of Rs 3,000. Over 150 teams participated in the event, with 35-40 teams shortlisted based on innovation and execution. The top three teams were awarded cash prizes.

The event was attended by Gitam School of Technology director Prof. Nagendra Prasad, Gitam vice-chancellor Dr. Eroll D’Souza, pro vice-chancellor Prof. Y Gouthama Rao, and registrar Prof. D Gunasekharan. They appreciated the students for their innovative projects and commitment to practical learning. The exhibition also attracted students from various colleges in and around Visakhapatnam city, who were inspired by the technological advancements showcased by the young innovators.

The TEP course not only enhances students’ technical skills but also encourages them to think creatively and come up with practical solutions to real-world challenges.
